Egg: This egg is probably laid singly, but surrounded by a gelatinous and sticky coat (A & B). It has a distinctly oval shape. No pigment was noted on the embryo. Incubation is about 40 hours.
Larva: The 2-day larva has just a few inconspicuous black pigment spots along the ventral edge of the notochord above and post-anus, and a slightly rough finfold surface (C). At 4 days the pectorals are edged with black, and there is a black patch midway between anus and notochord tip (D & E). By the following day this had all but disappeared, with only a faint smudge on the pectoral (F). C: 2 days, D&E: 4 days, F: 5 days.
This egg has only been seen twice, in December 1995 and December 1997 off Park Rynie. On both occasions just a single egg was collected. It was not seen in DHM samples.
